Summer here in Oregon went away without a hint. One week it was full of 90F swelter and the next? Rain and 60's. The trees have started to don orange and red. The pumpkins are at the market and waiting for us in the fields. So last Thursday, on a day when the rain was taking a short break, I spontaneously packed together our beach gear and headed for the seaside with K and E. The quickest way to see ocean is to hop on the highway near our home and head due west, to Lincoln City. Every street is lined with bungalows and vacation rentals. They remind me of living on 79th ST in Virginia beach, where friends were made for life and moon was big on the water. Anyway, we found 26th St to be quite nice, with a simple parking lot (for 6 or so cars) and a public restroom (essential with kids. and me.) and we went right down those stairs and got to work saying both hello to a sunshine-y beach day and goodbye to summer and her glorious light.
I die.
They wanted to crawl in the sand. Why not? My only admonition was to stay out of the water (it was a nice day, but not that nice.)
Eva and I came upon a crab claw.
She stood staring at it, aghast, for quite some time...
And then her brother came on the scene.
He promptly picked it up...
...stomped on it...
...showed his sis how to stomp on it...
...and then buried it.
Moving on. We found cool rocks to climb on.
My little rock-climber. Love.
After hiking back to the top, we ate our packed lunch at the picnic table. K is wearing my sunnies as it got quite bright!
I decided it was time to teach K how to use the camera.
It's a work in progress. But hey! Proof that I was there, too!!
Then we packed up, hopped on the 101 Pacific Coast Highway and drove home.
Hope you all enjoyed your summer immensely. If not, this weekend is supposed to be in the late 60/ low 70 range, so it's worth another shot if you are able.
Cheers!
